A piston air compressor machine is the most common air compressing equipment in the market and it is widely used in a workshop and for home use too. The piston of the piston air compressor machine compresses the air into a high pressure, then deliver the compressed air into the air receiver tank. A piston air compressor can not produce continuous compressed air as a screw air compressor does, so the compressed air needs to be stored in an air receiver tank before delivering to a small piece of pneumatic equipment.

An electric motor or diesel engine starts to drive the piston air compressor machine through the flexible coupling that creates the reciprocating motion of the piston. The piston in the cylinder moves upwards and downwards. The control system of the portable piston air compressor includes unloading valves, the load (pressure) regulator such as adjusting; lubricating oil, the cooling water, and the exhaust gas pressure and temperature, sound and light alarm, an automatic shutdown protection device; auto exhaust water devices.
